I'll start:

When designing makeup:
Draw the design for one eye and copy whole layer, for other eye. (duplicate that layer).
Then flip the layer and position it using -EDIT-FREE TRANSFORM-

when saving a newly made design:
Save a newly made design with your username in the saveboxstrip so that when other users make an outfit with it or use it, they know who created it and give the rightful credits to the designer

When designing anything small like shoes zoom in to get the detail and use a tiny brush.

When designing t-shirts:
Tees are not always skin tight. Make them have wrinkles on side and flowing ones down the t-shirt as if it is draping on the person.

When designing black items:
Don't use pure dark black, use a very dark gray.
Kind of the shade of the bar on forums with font option icons etc....
Then shade with very dark black and white with opacity low.
It will look more realistic as no item is 100% pure jet black.

Make sure that when your done with your design that you smooth out the edges by using the polygonal lasso tool or anything so that the edges don't look pixely and unpurposefully lumpy!

Save your projects as you progress. You don't want to be really far in a design without saving when your computer crashes... i learned that the hard way :(

When designing check if you coloured in everywhere on your design (no gaps). Plus if your design has covered the whole of the model. No gap showing underwear or top of shoulders where not wanted.

If you want makeup/hair to look good re-size the image so its pretty large (1500+ pixels) at 300ppi so it looks extra clean. also it's easier for me to just redraw the whole eye than trying to paint over a now super pixely model eye if that makes sense.

To design with a pattern fabric effect:

-Import the pattern as new layer.-
-Set the layer to a low opacity (so body is seen under it).-
-Create new layer.-
-Draw outline of the item you're designing.-
-Then erase on pattern fabric layer, the outside of the outline.-
-Next delete the outline layer.-
-Shade and add details.-

Isn't there a clipping mask-like feature??
Orrr can't you just create the outline with the polygonal lasso directly on the pattern layer?
Asking 'cause I can't get either of the on-site programs to work.

It just looks like there's a tad too many steps there for some reason.

I find the lassoo tool to be dodgy and not a clean outline shape. its basically drawing the outline with line tool and then rubbing away the part outside the lines. Just on different layers.
